hi,
i have had this problem for ages, i simply cannot search my computer without lag.

I am using Windows Pro, 1GB ram, AMD Athlon 64 processor 2.01GHz

i think it is because i litterally have so many files, when i search for a file or in the last case when i was searching for all .iso files, it works but really slows down my system, when i open taskmanager (this is after at least 30 secs after click for it to open when running a search...) it doesnt seem to show the amount of ram/cpu usage which i would expect for it to cause it to slow down that much

usually it is using a adverage amount which i would expect but the system acts like im up to 100% CPU and virtually all ram...

i have at least 90GBs of files, over 3 HDD (40, 80, 250GB) most of which is media files such as music, videos, and also loads of archives and scripts and that sort of thing.. anyway just wondering if there is a way to speed up the search and also make it not slow my system down,
usually i am quite capable of watching a film, view webpages, and coding basicly quite a bit...

but just search on its own mucks up bit

Yep. I had that problem on my old computer- there was way too much stuff so the search function became useless. I'm also not fond of Windows way of searching- it takes FOREVER (as it searches each directory).

My new Mac Pro finds everything practically instantly (not just files).

Are your files indexed?

Yeah, if you right click on the drive and click properties it should be in there somewhere, and you might be surprised to find that some aren't indexed. Also, you may want to consider a third party desktop search component like Google Desktop.

ALL of y drives are compressed and indexed. all ready... like i thought they were, i have never liked those desktop searches as they seem to installl spyware and can jsut be crap.

if you or soemoen else can suggest a good clean easy to use one which doesnt hog memory or load times i will try it.
