My anitvirus software will find the viruses but will not clean it...I use
computer associates virus software...any suggestions would be great.

Hi Jimb, your virus scanner probably cannot clean the files as the files are probably in use at the time of the scan (in memory) normally with viruses (especially the difficult one's) you would have to go into safe mode and then do the scan again, which will eliminate the viruses as the files are no longer in use. if you dont know how to go into safe mode, here is a quick tutorial:

1. Reboot pc and as soon as the machine is starting to boot, Hit F8 on your keyboard repeately until a new screen comes up
2. on that screen you have a few options, the one you want is "boot windows in safe mode" Select it and wait.
3. once Windows is loaded it will tell you it is running in safe mode and if you want to continue, say yes.
4. run your virus scanner and kill the viruses
5. reboot machine again and all should be fine

Try running Hijackthis on your computer and look for new or doubtful processes running. Then try to google that process to see its origin and how to get rid of it if it poses as a threat. there are lots of online forums out there that specializes in virus or worm removal

Restart ur PC in safe mode and then run a full anti virus scan. This should solve your problem.

I am using AVAST and its working very fine on my system.

Use NOD32 or Avast! Professional Edition Anti Virus and use this tool too Removeit Pro

looks like your computer is already infected with virus or subscription is over. Scan from safe mode if it helps.

if you know when did the virus infected your pc...the very best thing to do is just...use system restore...in xp push start button then accessories then system tools then system restore...

I'm using NOD but not too happy with it or maybe mine has some problem. There are times it'll show a virus activity and no matter how many times you press delete or quarrantine it'll do nothing and the computer hangs after that. Very bugging I've tried to reinstall it but to no avail.

The problem with system restore is that it might remove the virus but along with it, it'll remove everything you've downloaded or installed after that date and that can be quite a pain.

I'M with AVG from last one year and it is doing fine for me. I had Norton anti virus but it needs upgradation every year.
