I'm not talking about any price, but I'm sure that if you look a bit on the occasion market, you can find a wireless router that will do a pretty good job.
As for your laptop, yes, of course it will need a network card too.
It seemed so obvious that I didn't stated it.
Every pc/laptop/ fridge that you want to connect on your network must have at least 1 network card.
Wireless or wired don't matter, as long as they all got ethernet connectivity.
And there is the router (in your case, your pc) that will need to have 2 interfaces. They can be 2 ethernet cards, 1 modem and 1 ethernet, 1 WAN port and 1 ethernet....
