What's the point of having so many sites? My mentor used to tell me that you can't chase two rabbits.

some of mine run by themselves called automation, or dedicated members, or amazing ad integration and search engine traffic.

I know a lot of businesspeople that disagree with the way I'm doing things. A lot of people in my family do too - they'd rather work a safe, secure J.O.B. for a certain amount of money every month year in, year out.

Times are changing, and with global market fluctuations and influences like the Middle East that can wreak havok on industries here in the US, having all your eggs in one basket is risking your livlihood.

If you invested all your money in the stock market, would you put it all in ONE single stock? No.

I'm not saying split hairs and do too many things... You should only be working on a manageable number of projects at a time. It's not like you're working 3 or 4 jobs, they're all websites. Just like full time web developers don't just work on one project at a time... you have to multitask.

Once you get a couple done and running by themselves, you can go on and create more sites. Over time you can build a strong network of sites generating a nice bit of revenue.

I totally agree with this philosophy. I like to look at it like this; 9 out of 10 businesses fail in there first year. You can look at your website like a business. The more sites you make, the more likely you will have that 1 out 10 sites that really works and brings in large amounts of revenue. If others fail, learn from those mistakes and don't try to bring a dead horse back to life. Move on and find another niche or strategy.

I have roughly 30 sites that are up and running.

I am running 3. One is a well established site, one is a very new startup site (no revenue), and one is a forum I started for a hobby of mine (ATV riding).

Yes, I monetize my hobby site. Take it anywhere you can get it.

I usually have more than I should, I often just have a cull of the one's I have neglected and try and tidy the network up a bit so that it doesn't run me ragged, I like to keep a nice base of some large sites, some with potential that are getting there and some that I need to spend a lot of time with, basically I like to dictate my hours and not let the sites dictate me.

Around 20 just now.

Three for myself, and 10 or so for various clients. In the process of adding a few as well.

I own 2 active blogs. The difference between owning 2 blogs and owning 15 sites is that these two blogs require more day-to-day updates than 15 sites.

I have 6 that are live, I only update 2, one further one is on autopilot and I have a bunch of unused domains. I really wish I had the time to develop some of the ideas Ive had though. it kinda goes like, Have good idea, scratch my head for a week coming up with a name, by the domain, start developing it, give up after a week. Repeat ad nauseum.
