for those who run 5+ sites, what kind of sites are they?

A lot of sites simply manage themselves. For example, auto updating blogs...easy money without doing any work apart from setting it all up and promoting.

Currently I have 1 website online which is still being worked on, I hope to get it online fully very soon! I also have a forum being designed which will intergrate into my other site! So by the end of August I hope to have 2 sites released!
I also have a few major ideas for mega large sites but they will not be implemented until "IntraFrame" has been released (some ultra elite software).

Something I have noticed alot of people do is use the same content on four or five sites. I currently have about 5000 99x99 msn icons on my PC and hope to add them to a section in my site. Now I was also thinking I could use them same 5000 icons and setup 2 or 3 other sites which run off the same database! Do you think this is wise?!

I don't think that would cause any problems. As long as the sites are noticeably distinct (not just different domains with the same layout/content) you should be fine. In fact, it may benefit you to do this and then inter-link them all.

On the other hand, if you take this course of action, it becomes harder to promote your sites as you now have 3-4 instead of 1. You have to decide which sites to promote, how hard, and how long. With 1 site, you know what you have to do and which site you have to do it too.

As with anything, there are positive and negative effects of each decision. Good luck making one.

Yeah thanks for the info, I think I will promote the one website and release the others a few months down the line! Another problem I have is I get an idea and start to develop it and then I kinda lose interest and start another project. I must say that now I am looking into earning from sites I have start to dedicate my time more to each project and have stuck with 3 for a few months now!

Unfortunately, I run four sites that are taking a toll, since they generate some offline business. Trust me....more is NOT always better, yet mine are interrelated.

Outsourcing will be my good friend shortly, however.

With this idea of msn icons etc, you can just easily have one site themed for girls, one for guys, one for all the "Emo" kids etc. Then just promote each individually in their suitable places etc.

I have two that get decent traffic. I probably have ten that just get random search engine and topsite traffic.

I'm very new in this business, so atm i'm stuck with one site i'm trying to optimise and when i'm done with that i'll move on to work on another site.

I have about 30, plus a number of others I maintain for friends and relatives,

Most are dormant / 'Hello World" I bought on speculation until I get round to building them up. When I'm in the mood though I can be rather prolific, typically typing up 20 or 30 pages of unique content in a few days. Offhand, I have about 10-20,000 pages of offline content I keep meaning to type up!
