It does make sense to write what you know about, otherwise you wouldn't know what to write about. :P

hi,

i tried in the past to write about things i didnt know about, just because the of the domain name.

what im saying is if you know loads about traffic wardens or what ever, write about it. Then exchange your content with someone who knows something that will fit in with your site

cheers

I've personally always found the most sucess when writing/marketing/discussing or whatever the case may be - when it's on something I know a lot about; moreover, even more sucess when it's something I love.

I agree with this to a certain extent, but expanding out to a topic that you may not have all the answers to is a good adventure to embark upon every so often.

The ability to be flexible, in my opinion, leads to better writing. I wouldn't be the writer I am today if I stuck to say, just writing about web design or just writing about security protocols.

Writing is what you make it.

Yes, writing about what you know is pretty simple as you have put it. Otherwise I would just be BSing my way through an article like at school for instance =]

Writing about what you dont know, but learning about it in the process is best in my opinion.

Chances are if you are sitting there wondering about something, and looking for some information about something someone else is too. Basically you know what its like to be on "the other side" of the site - you know what you are looking for and what you want to know. Sometimes its easy to forget about mentioning things/the basics etc if you are deeply deeply knowledgable about something as you forget that not everyone actually knows this stuff anyway!

Put some time into researching that information etc etc and before you know it you've learnt some stuff and set a site up about it

I like researching stuff. Unfortunately, I'm lazy and I don't write very often.

I should, though...
