"You're writing isn't as good as mine"

A quote from another forum I got earlier this week that wounded my confidence. Suggestions on improving this piece of marketing copy would be appreciated: http://www.itintl.com/Quick_and_Dirt..._Importing.php

This is just from a very quick overview and I know nothing of the subject but going to do a quick rewrite / restyling of one aspect that would make it more of a sales copy than it currently is... although I think an expert in the area would know a lot better how to focus on the key topics covered in the book and present it to the intended audience.

Quote:
How you can overcome the importer learning curve

US Customs import regulations are a maze of paperwork. Shippers are asked to provide tariff classifications and wait for days on end to fulfill import requirements. Experienced importers reap the rewards while novices are punished with delays, seizures, fines and penalties.

Here are some things you'll learn:

* How to contact your local Customs port for answers and information
* The ins and outs of the Customs process and how to use it to your advantage
* Formal vs. Informal entries: how importing smaller shipments can make the process easier
My Rewrite:

Are you tired of :
  • Trawling through the maze of paperwork
  • Providing Tariff Classifications and waiting for days to fulfil import requirements
  • Experienced importers reaping rewards while you are stuck with delays, fines, penalties and seizures

Overcome the Importer Learning Curve:
  • Learn how to use the Customs process to your advantage
  • Learn how to get the right information from your local customs to avoid delays
  • Learn how to avoid fines, penalties and seizures
  • Learn the benefits of formal versus informal entries

First, there are issues. The piece isn't moving me to act.

I'm not going to rewrite it, because that's what I'm paid to do. However, here's a hint. Focus on the initial part above the fold. That's where major issues reside.

Second, don't let others get you down. In the writing business, especially upper level, it's an ego war.

Do the best you can and keep learning. The more visible you become, the more crap that will be slung at you. Grow a thick hide and keep moving.

Good luck!

That was the reason I quickly re-styled a section to give him an idea of how to make it impact a bit more ... I know copywriters have an ego reflected in their fees :P, but I was simply giving him an idea of making it have more impact.

Hopefully from the section I done, he is able to relook at the whole page and be able to better represent the reasons why people should download the info etc

(My re-style was not intended as saying it *must* be done exactly as I wrote it, but more along that style instead of how it was originally presented)

You may want to inform your critic that the use of "You're" is grammatically incorrect in this case; It should be "your".

I like that advice! I have started writing articles and submitting them to ezinearticles. I am learning more about submitting as I go. I know I am not as polished as some of the authors with hundreds of articles, but I am getting there.

I haven't even tried to write a Sales Letter, yet. That is another challenge (read "opportunity for improvement") in my future!
