Hey,

Since I created an arcade website, I have been checking out the competition and seeing the keywords they are targetting and the referrers they are getting and what not.

Now when I see the description of these sites, I see stuff like, "We add at least 10 new games a day", or ,"New Games added Daily". So I note down the site, what they say they are doing and revisit it the next down.

I get there are there are no new games what so ever, fair enough, they might have got caught up, got lazy. So I check the next day, no new games, a week later there are no new games added..

I am wondering do any of you guys ever stay true to what you say and add new content daily or follow your descriptions? I bought game packs from matt, and am adding them over a period of time so that I can keep my visitors amused for a while

Well, it's quite simple: getting new visitors by yourself is much harder than getting few interested visitors who spread the word. If you say "new game every day or whatnot" and then don't walk your talk you are only fooling yourself.

I think alot of it is credibility. If you don't do what you say you are going to do visitors will find another site that offers what they want. I agree that it is by far easier to have a few interested visitors spread a good word about your site than it is to attract new visitors to your site.

Want to draw some attention to your site? Call your competitors out on their false promotions.

You don't want to start a flame war, but if you're right, people will be interested in what you have to say and can offer them.

LoL its kinda funny how you walk your talk visitors to your website by dropping a subtle link. Anything to get hits huh?...kidding

Anyway, the internet is 99.9% hype. The .01 percent that isnt are the .edu .gov and .mil sites. Unlike radio, TV and more established mediums of information hype thrives because there is no one to regulate it.

If your competitors are saying "We add 10 new games every day", just say "We add 20 new games everyday". No one will remember your promise anyway, and this is part of Internet marketing like Worldwebuser said.

You certainly can't keep up with your word, but even if you add 5 games a week your visitors will be satisifed. At least, you're updating...

I think that visitors can tell the difference between someone really trying and someone BSing. If you feel like the website cares about its visitors, the visitors will recommend you to others.
