Why is AdCopy so long?

As a person who has been watching IM and Affiliate Marketing for the past year and with over 16 years of Marketing I have one question:

Why are AdCopy's for IM products and services so long. As soon as I go to one, I become very sceptical, the purpose of selling is meet the need and to gain the slightest bit of trust.

The AdCopy that I see is ridiculous, comments?

Bigbling, I am no where near your marketing experience. But I am bought quite a bit of IM products. From the perspective of a buyer, the chances of me buying the product is higher with a long sales letter compare to a shorter one. Convincing sales letter tend to be long, I think. They drill into the emotional aspect of the buyer and by the time I reach the end, I got no choice but to buy. That is what I call a powerful sales letter. I like the fact that the marketer spends more time to convince me of the benefits of the products. I tend to read the testimonials as well. However, too much hype is a turn off. For example, if a sales letter tells me I can be a millionnaire in one week by using their product, I won't even give the sales letter a second look.

Just my two cents.

Great point,

The longer the better in that it gains your trust. However, remember everyone is selling the picks and the axes for the IM gold rush. I was surprised to see on Stone's PIP testimonial list that one of the major players in AM listed, gee I recognize his photo. If I didn't know as much it would appear that a consortium of players are playing the rest of the field.

Bottom line.

If you have a unique product or service and you market correctly it will sell
If you have minimal content or value to add you will default to a PIP, AM or "system" to get you up and running. Which will cost you. I hate to mention the "p" word, something that the egyptians built along time ago, but this is incentuous and hidden in it's intention. I have every intention to market my site by honest means. I will try to sell picks and shovels but I will do it honestly.

I will as well start to provide my marketing experience free of charge around this. This really is a wonderful case study on the Crossing the Chasm model. However, very few people actually take the time to understand the market, who they want to sell to, and what is the compelling reason to buy. It's all blind and long AdCopy just justifies the fact that the marketing plan is ill defined and lacking in strategy, program and tactics.

I started this process wanting to make a little extra cash, but in the end I can see that I should be selling my experience as a service vs. pushing a "Sponsor", Downline seller

Adcopy is too long, the longer it is the less they have to sell.

Some people want a lot of information before they can make a buying decision. Long copies help there. For those who don't want to read the entire thing can click the "order" buttons and links in between, probably soon after the first benefit list...

You need long copy to answer all the visitors questions and erase all his/her doubt about you.

Long Ad copies are needed because it takes time for a message to be absorbed. To learn the lyrics of a song, most people need to re read the lyrics a few times.Same goes for an Ad copy.

When asking for a salary increase or negotiating the best terms for a business deal, it takes more then a few words or a "short ad copy" to persuade the opposition party to agree to your terms. So the same goes for the online world. Persuasion comes in the form of well written ad copys. The longer it is, the more packed it is with reasons for a customer to purchase, the higher the conversion rate.
