Aren't Articles Directories Bad?

I submit to directories and don't think it's bad. But, if you think so, by all means, stop doing it.

The "I'll submit 1 and wait for a barrage of traffic" approach won't work. Submit as often as you can and see how you are in a year.

Don't be that little webmaster guy that checks his stats every 3 seconds.

It happens in the real media world too.

"Everything" might be a little strong though.

Yes everything can be stolen, and likely will be.
But it's then up to you to better then thieves. Beat them at their game by becoming an authority - no will ever trust the thief but they will trust you.

I use articles from various databases on my blog when they are relevant and well written. Of course I have to admit that I am new to the whole content building thing and don't have much time outside of work to get things done.

The trick is finding well written articles. There is a ton of crap out there. And I have had a few seach engine hits going to pages based on the outsourced content.

As far as submitting articles I like the idea of holding off on anything I have written for a while to make sure the search engines consider it unique content. Then maybe I'll submit it to a few of the bigger article databases after a month or so.

There continues to be debate on whether to write articles and submit to as many sites as possible (using services like Article Marketer or software like Article Submitter Pro) versus submitting to just a small number of high PR sites.

Does anyone know of a helpful source for insight on this?

Yea. Do it YOURSELF and see what's best for you.

Or you could waste your life reading countless posts/articles based off other people's experiences.

Would you call some pet shop owner in Small Town USA and ask if advertising in GQ magazine was worth it for your business?

I especially like shermanchoo's idea. What if you take it one step further... Write part I of an article and give it out via the article directories, then point your resource link to part II on your site.
You could do that, for article directories that allow submissions manually,
and do not have editors that verify the content.

Most of the time, editors are particluar about the content being complete.
Especially so for automated article submission services.

You could use this idea for your Emails though, and attract your readers to
go to your blog for more info. Its actually a good thing, because keeping
emails short allow them to get pass spam filters, and is considerate toward
your readers

use articles and website directories...if they are higher than PR 4-5 then thats good. Dont do it yourself..you must spend time on your business...outsource and get someone else to do it!

there are other forums around where people will post to directories for a small fee.
