How many people are doing well with static websites?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I make all my money off static sites. Good content is what counts, doesn't matter if its static or dynamic!

I do have some blogs though, I guess they are dynamic.

I think it's best to change up the content on your site fairly regularly, at least with every new Google update so that fresh, quality content is added frequently. I get nervous if my site sits too long with no changes and think static sites will lose popularity with the search engines.

I guess it depends on the site. The only real pitfall w/ a static site is that it's much harder to manage and scale.

About a year ago, I began an effort to move a lot of my sites back to static html pages. They're more secure and easier to support. If it's a site you don't intend to update on a regular basis, static is the way to go.

Most of my web proerties are static, but they make heavy use of shared HTML, CSS, and small custom scripts.

This gives me a lot more creative control than any CMS possibly could.

I am doing well with static websites. Or better, my static websites are doing better than my dynamic websites.
It sure is hard to manage a static website, but it's a bit more secure as you don't have to worry of sql attacks, but I like the idea of not typing the html and let the software handle the html.
