#1 - YouTube video download site

I was thinking about the millions of people who visit the site and are limited to watching the videos on their computer. How cool would it be if you could bring those videos with you on your ipod (or other mp4/wmv player ).

I could offer a service where users visit the site fill out a form containing the url to the video and desired video codec along with their email address. Then the video would be downloaded by myself, converted, and uploaded to my server where they could download it and put it on their ipod.

#2 - Website search engine position tool

I googled that term and found no results for a tool that would tell people what position they were in search engines like Yahoo, Google, MSN, etc.

I would create a php script to do this.

#1 check very carefully the Terms of Use on the YouTube website. The idea itself is good, but you could put yourself into some seriously hot water with YouTube

#2 there's quite a few tools how show you the position related to certain search terms

Yes I agree. There are quite a number of tools available. And also, search engine related business has too much competition these days. It would have been useful if you had wanted to do this 3-4 years back.

1. Already done - TechCrunch has offered that tool - they also got a cease and decist letter from Google - TechCrunch ignored it because YouTube's terms and conditions actually did not say you couldn't do it. But thats a big blog network that could challenge YouTube if they wanted to.

2. Already Done - Digital point have a very good one (does all 3 SEs in one go). DP arn't the only ones either.

My advice - Webmaster stuff is swamped - every webmaster is tech savvy and thinks of a tool and makes it so you'll almost always be beaten to it.

Stick with the YouTube idea but go for a different angle - there are tons of ideas that have not been discovered yet.

a bit generalised on your questions but this has all been done.

i think you youtube idea is ok but i would investigate if further and find out whethere people want this.???
