What's more important good quality content, or not as good but filled with keywords?

Pleasurable Reading? or SEO madness?

Write for people not search engines. Assuming that the keyword filled page will rank better what's the point if people leave because the quality isn't as good?

Use keywords in your copy, but always make sure to first create content for real people. You should be able to write something of quality that still uses your keywords. You don't want to stuff the page full of keywords either. If you write naturally you'll end up ranking well for a variety of phrases around your main theme.

SEO. Keyword density; optimization. Pay per click link building. Nofollow. Page title css redirect brand awareness 301 optimization per mille.

That's an extreme example ... but not terribly useful, and not likely to be used. It wouldn't leave a good impression on anybody, and it's potential as link bait is zero. But talk about keyword rich! On the other hand, I've seen people link to pages that weren't related to them in any way, but were well written.

I'd say well written and informative should win out every time.

But I've seen countless of websites where the quality of content isn't good, but the SEO is, where the website is actually doing well. Whats the point of quality content if no one is at your site to read it?

What's the point of having a lot of traffic if your content instantly drives them away?

Other than your business model being something like AdSense where your goal is to drive them away through a link on your site.

When I outsource content, I keep the specs realistic depending on the talent of my writer(s).

If I'm after a lot of content from a cheap asian supplier, I will keep the keywords minimal. Supplying too many keywords to a less talented writer will lead to horribly written content as they try to cram phrases in where they don't belong.

On the other hand, if I'm paying a premium to a talented copywriter, I will definitely make the effort to supply him some keywords for inclusion. Not only does it help to have them for search engine performance, but helps to focus the writer so they put the right spin on the article.

Quality content, no doubt about it. but at the same time you cannot forget SEO unless you are cnn.com where people go directly.

Finding the right balance is crucial. The tendency is almost always to favor one over the other. When that happens, favoring the reader's interest will be to your advantage. As it was said in a previous post ---- what good would it do if you get traffic and then drive them away with nearly-nonsensical writing?

It depends if you want search engines or users to read your website....think about who is going to buy your products, talk about your company etc...

Then you know who to focus on.
