hi - There are five main emotional things you can write about that pull a reader in.

1. Greed - The business owner wants money, the client/reader wants money
2. Fear - Business will fold, Client will miss out
3. Pride - Sense of identity, ego, the business/product is a reflection of the reader
4. love - Whats your passion? Why do you do the things you do - for freedom, to send your childrent to the best school
5. Guilt - Time away from family and friends, your always busy. you wish you could do better for your kids.

Have you tried different angles with your products/services? let me know. i want to get a feel for this forum.

Most of my writing would be in something I'd be interested in, as the article comes across a lot more interesting itself when a little bit of passion has been put in.

While I agree with you Kathryn, I don't really use any of that on my site. I mostly write as if having a conversation with a group of friends

The way I see it, most of my stuff is part of a conversation that extends to other peoples blogs, various social networks, forums, etc. Folks offer up different ideas, counter points and suggestions from their various places on the web.

My writing is not about trying to push my ideas down someones throat (as in traditional one-way media). It's about a two-way exchange of ideas. This is why writing for the web is nothing like print.

In print, there's the writer and the audience.
- On the web, the audience may be writers too.
In print, once printed the words don't change.
- One the web, the words constantly evolve because feedback is simple and quick

Sometimes it's a good idea to pull a reader in based on emotional content. But you have to be careful with it. A smart reader will know when you are trying to pull their strings, and they won't tug, especially if a sales pitch is involved.

Good points. On the web, your writing is not an independent piece of media that can be circulated (as in print), but it is just one node in a vast network of other media pieces, or sources of content. In some ways it gives you less authority, but if you are successful, it can work in your favor.

I agree with this. I know that when I read copy, I tend to be more skeptical than trusting. Especially if someone is trying to be very persuasive, trying to convince me of what I "should" be thinking.

But, I think using those techniques are fine as long as you write with respect for your reader. It's okay to be persuasive or talk about emotional issues, as long as you acknowledge that your reader has the final say in their decision.

Well, as buyer, I ALWAYS
buy for emotional reasons.

Often times on impulse.

So, probably for most
of us - emotional is the
way to go.

Everything I've been
studying so far says to
hit hard from an emotional
point of view.

But I also know that
every tactic doesn't
work on every buyer...

There's a thin line
I suppose...

Emotions are good to be put in writing.. but also remember not to be too over as some readers are able to read when we are really having sympathy on them or just a tactic...

I would write something based on my mind, it could be any of those, or more, depends on the situation I am writting about. You do know about the sixth sense don't you?
