You guys know of any site that gives out free info besides the Government? Also, if it's free content, wouldn't you get Google slapped because it's duplicate content if you post it on your site?

BigCat - When I read your post, I got the impression that you're looking for free content to use on your site. Is that what you meant? If so, find all the articles you could want in article banks (ezinearticles.com, articlecity.com, etc.).

If not,... disregard this message.

There's lots of article directories that offer free content. There's also free user generated content like forums, and social bookmark sites.

No, there's no duplicate content penalty. Google just decides which copy is more relevant and attempts to show only that copy in search results. In other words it will be hard to rank.

You can't steal something if it's free. The OP is asking about free content not stealing content.

Why not rewrite them a little bit that will definitely help you to avoid the ire of Google related to duplicate content issue. Better to use original content but if it is not possible try to rewrite them a little bit without distorting the meaning.

Sounds like a recommendation for creating information pollution.

You can get free reprintable contents from article directories. Just make sure you put the necessary references. Don't post something without recognizing its original author.

that's concern abt the copyright issue but remember there is no such thing as a duplicate content "penalty". There is a duplicate content filter that reduces the possibility of the same content being duplicated in the SERP.

Duplicate material has no worth in Google ranking, and if you duplicate any content then you have to bear the consequences by your self.

Hey... just wanna drop you a note about free content. There's nothing called free lunch on this planet! But guys, BigCat is not looking for ways to stealing content... rather want some source that lets you copy their content and use it in your website. Remember Google ranking has got to do with duplicate content... but there's good chance that you can be penalized by the original content owner. But yes, there are some site owners who wants their content to be distributed across the web by the way of allowing their content to be re-used in exchange of the link in the Author Bio created by themselves. In that case you can contact those webmasters. But remember, though Google will not penalize you, but it will omit your page for specific Query. It may not show both the pages (yours and the source's) at the same time for a specific Query.

Note I would hereby suggest you to make your site no-index, no-follow in that case so that Googlebot will skip off your site without indexing it. Do you like this? "No", I am sure. So, no point looking for pre-created content. My best suggestion is to create things yourself.

Why not just write a new article, in that way you don't have to worry getting penalized by other sites or google. If you don't have time, outsource. That is much better than posting a duplicate. =)
