You give away your work for other people to republish and show adverts on.

If you have an article you can submit it to an article directory and if somebody finds your article useful or interesting and takes it and places it to their own website or a blog then the article has been syndicated and you have gained another backlink to your website without doing anything.
So if you have really good and informative article and after submitting it to article directory it gets syndicated a lot then it is like chain reaction and you would gain lot of one way backlinks from it.
Oh wow this is something new that is Article syndication. I never come across this term before. I think this is really a knowledgeable thread for the user like me.
