When people use the lingo "copy," do they mean copyright or content or something else? An example would be like, "when writing copy for your web site..." Thanks.

it simply means the text you write for website

The short form being used "copy" comes from "Copywriting" basically referring to whatever you are writing.

Related terms: sales copy, ad copy, etc

Wrong way around.

"copy writer" originally refered to the typesetters in newspaper print houses who would literally "copy" the reporters words onto the print blocks.

My boss always refers to text on the website as 'copy'. It gets on my nerves but it's just peoples preference I guess. Text, Content, Copy, Whatever..

So yeah, its the content of the page. I know it's been answered, I just wanted to rant about my boss haha

Copy is not the content. The content includes images, images are NOT copy.

You meen "copywriting" , aren't you? Copy writers are writing promotional text, to sell something. i.e You want to sell your e-book .. write an article abaut how great is it.
