Is it illegal to have for example, a guitar by a company, on a logo on a website?

I want to put a guitar on a logo on my website, but I'm not sure if it's allowed.
Can someone help me on this?
Thanks!

Have a guitar by all means, just as long as you don't use the guitar manufacturers logo.

But if you want to be 100% positive...

Interesting question.

I recently did a site for a rock guitarist and in her "logo" she's pictured holding her guitar with the brand name clearly visible. The guitar manufacturer didn't bat an eyelid, they saw it as free pomotion so were very happy! But there again she activly promotes that particular brand of guitar anyway.

However, if you're using anything that can be identifiable as someones brand/make etc then why not ask them for permission?

better to buy costume logo from someone. im buying my avatar and banner from Jelene visit etsy.com/shop/jelene her price is cheap only about $15++
only takes time about a week for her to finish your order.

Considering something such as a Guitar Brand name will freely promote the manufacturer but if you wanna have your own then its better to go along with the logo and a link to it.

oh my gosh you have to be so careful with the images that you find they can sue you for using images with out having a royal free image

I mean a lot of images you see on sites you cant just rip them off and use it for a logo and banner. Even though tons of people do it.

I believe Chris is right that you just cannot use the companys logo - but i am not a 100% positive on this. If you can't afford to hire a lawyer to make sure then just do some research in Google on the subject.

But like I said I am pretty sure that Chris is right on this topic.

In my opinion if the guitar sign is somebody's business trade mark then you can't paste it on your website.

Its OK to use a guitar images from a branded company, provided that the guitar images doesn't bearing the company logo.

Rule of thumb is to always get the creators permission. Sometimes they will charge a liscensing fee for the image or sometimes they are more then happy because its free promoting of their products.

I think I go for this advise, I have a friend who makes logo for a site and he suggest to the owner like what Chris has said (it's a different logo, by the way, not a guitar) and it went smoothly.

As long as the site isn't of the negative variety most companies just see this as free advertising, especially if the site is related to their product. However, it is always best to ask for permission, and if really serious want to protect your *** contact a lawyer.

It's free to ask permission so why not start there?

The main thing you got to keep in mind is that you need to have the creator's permission ta use it on your own. You can also look into the copywrite law in your country.
