I was thinking of sharing a few mistakes I did while developing my site. Should I discuss it on my blog? Any advice guys/gals?

It depends on whether prospective customers would read this and not do business with you. I suppose this depends on whether the mistakes are key to your business (eg a website designer discussing the RECENT mistakes they've made on websites - doesn't give the customer much confidence) or secondary to your business (eg a plumber talking about problems getting a website up and running - you could still respect his plumbing ability).

If mistakes are key to your business, could you put them back in time a bit? For example, when I first started I, like others, made these mistakes but now ...

I actually include mistakes I have made in my autoresponder. I share posts about how I was focusing on to many things at once, spending to much time looking for themes etc.

Sharing helps you establish a relationship with your readers and helps them.

depends what the mistake is..

for instance if it was major incompetence on your part, which may tar your rep then obviously don't, however if it's something that's behind you and you've grown from it, then do share.

It could work in your favor as well, for instance in the IM world, everything full of exxageration and hyperbole, people exxagerate their success, earnings etc. If you have a blog about seo/blogging, and your confession is about a major mess up of your seo/blogging, then comeing clean may teach your readers a thing or two, and help them to avoid these mistakes, and endear you as well.

Julian Assange's early blogs contain detailed descriptions of predatory behaviour toward vulnerable women and doing things as warped as smearing coffee on himself to cause a coffee-mad lover to, and I partly quote him here, associate he Assange with her 'dopamenic cravings'.

This may at the time have entertained his readers, fostered a relationship between other slightly odd people and himself, and even gained him a bit of kudos from the coffee industry itself but now that there are trumped up charges against him for crimes against women, and the entire news media is owned by those who wish to see him actually executed, it turns out that his admissions (unwitting as they were) of his incomplete understanding of the honest male-female relationship (or male-male female-female, whatever river your boat rides on) may land him in a very long jail sentence which, all things considered, it seems unlikely has any real connection to genuine criminal justice.

So no. Don't be honest. Nobody's so good that letting everyone see all their true colours can only improve their standing. Actually almost everyone on the planet is the total opposite.

I think it's ok in the sense that you're letting people learn thru your mistakes. However, try to tone down the language lest you create the wrong impression.

If your site topic is about flower planting, you really needn't to do that. My point is if your mistake got nothing to do with your site topic, then you should choose another place to share your experience, like here.

Well, its a big help. But indicate there also the things you do in order to overcome those mistakes you did.

yes, its a good thing if you are sharing mistakes with others because, may be some one reading them out there would suggest something useful to you and it might help you in correcting them.
Not only this it can also be helpful to others as they will be cautious and readily aware of the mistakes, and will avoid them in their projects.

The answer is NO
Firstly you shouldn't call them mistakes, that's a bad start with negative connotations. Any "mistakes" are part of the development process. By all means share them but include them in the design ie: "test1 didn't quite work so i then implemented test2"

Its a two edge sword. What I mean by that:

Its bad because, it makes you look unprofesionable und unreliable.
Its good because, you've got the human touch, the visitors conects in a way with you, he simpatizes with your problem.
