Why not? i've been serving a pop up on my forums for over 3 years now.
Anyway, I use a vb template conditional to only show the pop up if they are not logged in. In my welcome headers, I stress that logged in users see less ads and no pop ups. Simple as that.
Hard to throw away $200 a month for people who won't even register on the site
