are the displaying image ads constitute CPM ads? how do I confirm that?
If any advertiser chooses to sign up directly to your site through the 'advertise on this site' link - then they will have signed up to CPM ads.
By default the choice is between CPM and CPC ads - you cannot choose which type appears as google makes that choice based on which is likely to pay more to you.

I had two skyscraper ads on one of my sites, one on top of the other. And I don't know why, but the bottom is almost ALWAYS CPM ad. Don't know how to explain it.
