Okay, another newbie question:

On this page: http://www.ministrymarketingconsulta.../location.html

My main content is coming up shorter than the two floated divs to the left. What can I do to make sure my main content div is at least as tall height wise as the two floated divs?

Sorry for all the beginner questions.

Good question, Reggie. It's so good that it only has one answer: a faux background.

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/fauxcolumns/ will explain it in more detail. In your particular case, you'll need to create a background containing mostly the white part, but some of the brown parts as well.

Thanks for your reply, Adam. . . The problem comes in with the Firefox browser. It looks okay on Explorer. . . I'll study the link you gave and give it a try. Thanks again!

You're welcome. It's worked for me every time. LNR too. And between the two of us, if we say something works...it works.

That it does !
I use faux background a lot -- it's just easier.

Are you both using images to achieve this? I ask because you don't need to. I've been doing this without images for awhile now and now I'm thinking I should write a post on it.

Is the idea of the faux columns to get the two columns the same height or is it about trying to get them to be 100% of the window height always. If it's the former then you shouldn't need any images. Unless I'm missing something which has been known to happen.

I use images, because I've found inconsistent behavior across the major browsers (and all are equally guilty, or at least close enough to it). It's only a (width) x 1 pixel image, so it's usually fine.

I'm with Adam on this. I use a very small image, like 2-3 pixels high, so weight is not a problem. The idea, of course, is to make the columns LOOK equal as the bg extends down the page. If I put a shadow on my page area, I need the image.

I agree with the shadows, but I've found it easy enough to get the columns if all you need is a solid background color.

The approach I use is to wrap both columns with a container div and set the container div's background color to be the same as one of the two columns. Then you set the background colors of the columns as you want.

It might be that you need to know which of the two columns is going to be longer than the other. I'm trying to remember if that's necessary, but that's often going to be consistent. You might also need to set a minimum height on one of the two columns.

It's been awhile since I've done it, but I'll take a look again and maybe right a post on how to go about it.
