okay

im making a charity site as most know blah blah. and i want to have it done by tomorrow or at leats enough to get pasted and put online.

but i noticed in FF its all messed.

at the moment i can only test in IE7 and FF because my ie6 is messed up so if someone could tell me how its looking would br apprieciated

Okay one thing i dont like in IE7 is it has a space above the navigation at the bar thing, but in FF there is no space i want it like it is in FF on all. and now it shows the background through

in FF on long pages like the about one instead of doing what it does in ie7 its wrapping arround the navigation!

also on sort pages in ff instead of just putting white space ir cramps it up and the navigation over hangs the footers

For testing in IE6 and IE7, use Netrenderer.

I took a look at your CSS file (http://calm.dansgalaxy.co.uk/themes/newcalm/styles.css) and I've got to say there's commenting, and there's going over the top! I couldn't really make that much of your CSS for this reason.

I think there is a </div> missing somewhere, but I'm not 100% sure.

How does it validate to XHTML 1.0 Strict when it is an XHTML 1.0 Transitional template?! Working on it now...

For one thing, you need to take those IE 5 hacks OUT of your main css file and put them in a separate file called by your conditional comments. Some of them WILL cause problems in IE7.

If you don't want the text to flow around the menu, then you need to give #mainContent a left margin of at least 140px.

You also need padding on your text, apply that to the #mainContent p, not #mainContent. I didn't see any 'big gap' when adding right padding either.

OK found a fix.

Under ".thrColFixHdr #mainContent ", (currently all commented IE hacks) add this CSS:

Quote:
overflow: auto;
Hope it fixes it - it does with me.

Talkupation appreciated ,
Dan

The float in FF is working perfectly.. it's IE thats BROKEN with it's seriously busted box model. You need the left margin on the content area to push it over past the floated menu. As it is now, the menu is floated left and, as it's supposed to do, the text in #mainContent is flowing around it.

I'd also vote for building for Firefox, and then fixing for IE. Firefox is generally very standards compliant - getting it working in FF will ensure it will work in future browsers too.

But the point is, it's NOT a problem, it is the correct behaviour IE6 and below get it wrong. IE7 does act more like FF now, it still has bugs, but most of the big ones they fixed.
