Ok my problem is this:

I have a header, a footer, and then the content.

Within the content are two columns, one positioned to the left and one positioned to the right. My issue is I can't get the one to the right to go to the far right without using float, when I use float it, as most of you know, throws the layout off and no longer inherits its parent attributes. which makes the white background shrink to like 10px.

Is there a way I am not seeing to position these two the left and right wihtout using float? (I have tried position as well and it has the same results).

What browser are you having trouble with ? Since you do have it floated, it's all the way over to the right in Firefox, looks at bit scrunched on IE 6 @ 1024x768.

Floats are definitely the way to go, it doesn't break the layout at all, but you do have to make sure you CLEAR your floats and you may need a few 'fixes' to boot IE into line. Positioning is generally NOT a good idea.
