I've developed a site for a trailer manufacturer. The site looks good on my computer (17" MacBook Pro, screen resolution 1680 x 1050 on Firefox) and it looks okay on a Windows computer running IE 7.

But the client claims that when he pulls it up on some of this dealers sites when he's on the road, the body copy and/or the navigation text is HUGE. He's talking like 9 point text looks like 32 pt text. He is seeing it happen to the navigation links on the left side of the page and to most of the internal pages. He will browse other web sites on the same computer and they all appear okay.

I'm new to CSS so I'm sure there is something I've done wrong, but I cannot put my finger on it. Can someone please give me a site review - and if you have any idea as to what might be going on, I would be grateful!

Thanks!!!!

Problem may be resolved.

I was using "em"s as my body font size, and evidently some computers he is viewing the site on has their font size set to large.

I didn't want to, but I changed the font size to points, and now no more issues.

In addition, the client insisted that I use Palatino for the font. That's fine, but I misspelled the font name (I typed in Palantino) and forgot the comma after the font name. No telling what the browsers were trying to substitute in its place.

Anyway, checked on IE 6 and 7 on both Mac and PC, and all appears fine.

Thanks!

Ah, that makes sense.
If you don't want to use pixels, you can use percentages.
I always do this:
Code:
body {
     font-size: 62.5%;
}
Percentages compatible in the body across all the browsers. The percentage of 62.5% allows you to use ems later in the document just like you would pixels. 1.0em would equal 10px at default font size, for example. 1.2em would be 12px, etc.

Cheers

no , points should only be used in your print style sheet if you have one.
use percentages instead based on a base em size like above

I should add to that, that it shouldn't matter what font size computers are defaulted to. That is their own stupid fault if they fuss up the sizes that much. You must account for it of course, because some people have very bad vision.

In this case setting default in pixels to make a client happy might be okay, but I would never do it on one of my own sites

Thanks guys (and perhaps gals). . .

I may go back and put in percentages . . . never liked using points to start with. I know we can't go back and compensate for all the older browsers, but if the client is unhappy and it delays the check in getting to me . . . I'll do what it takes. . . . however I think percentages may be a good compromise.

Thanks for all the input. I really do appreciate it!
