Do you really think its worth it to learn CSS from front to back?

Does it really make life so much easier in the end ?

My not just use server side includes ?

Curious your thoughts..

What does CSS have to do with SSI ?
SSI is a mean to include partial files site wide.
CSS are declaration to the browser about how to style the elements present in your pages.

It's like comparing a turtle with a piano, and asking which one can shoot darts best !?

Edit:
And to answer the question, yes, CSS is an essential part of anyone thinking about designing a web page, and skipping that part is nothing but idiocy.

You could just do without CSS. It's fun using nested tables for layout and I absolutely love changing a site with all those tables, <font> tags, bg, color, etc. spread all over the place. It's always good to leave yourself a challenge.

But, in reality, CSS has made my life EASIER!

CSS is pretty much mandatory if you want to make a site that looks even somewhat good. If you don't use CSS, then, you'll end up with one of those sites that looks like it was made in 1999. CSS definitely is easier to use, as well, once you get to know it. It's not a hard language to learn.

CSS & SSI don't have anything to do with each other, but as far as learning css from front-to-back it depends on what type of designer you want to be. If you are going to create your own templates and sites from scratch then yes you should know css from front-to-back. If you're going to use templates that have already been created (like from a template club) then there is no need to learn it from front to back. You will only need to become familiar with css. You won't have to know it like the back of your hand.

There is no CSS VS HTML, they work TOGETHER, not exclusively.

I think the real question is HTML vs XHTML. In my opinion CSS should be used for form and styling.

Hi -

I believe any web designer/developer should learn CSS because:
  1. There is some styling you can do ONLY in CSS
  2. CSS contributes to the goal of separating content from presentation code
  3. CSS saves you a lot of time when you use external style sheets
