What am I looking for?

I want to define an area with the stylesheet that I can use within the main content div like one would use a table if the site was not almost pure css.

I want this content area to have completely different font sizes and maybe different mouse properties from the main content text above and below it.

Tell me what I am looking for and I can look it up. If you want to provide a link or comment that is greatly appreciated also.

I'd say you're simply looking for a block-level element that you can target with a css specificity higher than the rest of the page.
A simple id could do the trick if the styles you want to change are defined on "body" for example.

Can you be more specific in your query, or show a url perhaps ?

Well, are you displaying tabular data? If so, then a table is appropriate. If not, what are you trying to mimic a table for?

The site only exists on localhost so this will have to do.

I want people to notice the change from regular content to the links to new articles much like I have done here by using the quote box. It is partly to make the title author and catergory fit on one 500 px line and partly just to show that it is something other than regular copy.

It depends a little on what you want to do. If all the text you want set off will be like a quote then I'd suggest simply styling the blockquote.

Otherwise you could always create a new class and apply it where you want.
