The top menu looks fine in Firefox, however in Internet Explorer it looks a lot thinner.

The HTML passes validation and the CSS practically passes also.

Why do I get this error, and how do I solve it.

If there's one thing I've learned about cross-browser compatibility, it is: Don't sweat the small stuff. It displays fine in IE, if a bit thinner. IE will never in a million years display things just how you want, even with conditional comments. I'd leave it be.

I'd also think twice about putting on the site that you're a new web designer and focus on links to current projects that show you're the web designer prospective customers want.

I have no current projects, lol, what can I do instead.

And you don't think the menu looks 'dodgy' in internet explorer?

Do some grat work to build your portfolio, do some sample templates in the meantime to include on your site, in various styles.

It DOES look funky in IE6 - which is no big surprise, it's not picking up the height or the borders.
