New to the forum and web design pretty much.

Just put a new site online using css and ssi.

My footer shows up o.k. on pages where I import it in with ssi http://hoopbuilding.com but does not show up correctly when it is not imported

Can anyone spot what I've done wrong? I think it is a css error but I'm so confused by now that I'm not even sure of that

Sounds more like a path problem than a CSS problem. Make sure you're defining the path correctly for the include.

No, actually the pages with the include work fine.

The one page where I am bringing in the footer directly into the page code is not working though I used exactly the same code that is in the include and pasted it into the space where on other pages I used an include.

Very perplexing for a new css person

I'm seeing the footer on that page just fine in Firefox. Shows up in IE6 too, albeit a bit taller than it is showing in FF.

Wow! It is there now. I must not have cleared my cache.

I know the page is ugly. I'll fix that when I learn a little more
