Well, I want to learn some css but found it a bit hard to learn without someone guiding me.

For a starters, I want to convert a PSD into a working website. I start with slicing the PSD but didn't know if I done it right.

So, perhaps if there is someone who got some free time willing to teach me in this.

thank you.

Sure, I'll help you:
1. Go to google and search for "css reference"
2. Start reading

That's all the help you need.
99% of us learn by trial and error, if it doesn't look right tweak it until it does. If you can't figure out how to do something SPECIFIC, ask online.

There are people that pay thousands of dollars to learn in college the answer to the question you just asked.

Not trying to be mean, just saying I doubt anyone is going to give that much of their time away for free when really you could help yourself to the knowledge, it's freely available online.

I would agree, and a book or two would also help. I highly recommend this one:

hmm...thanks for all the response.
Actually I did read w3schools, the stickies and the guide availables, but as my thread said, I need help with slicing my psd.
Of course, my title would be confusing as it said css but all that matters to me now is to learn how to slice efficiently.

We'd really need to see the image to help you with that. Save your photoshop file as a jpg and post it here and I'm sure we can give you some ideas on the best way to turn it into a web page.

No one really slices images anymore, at least not the way I think you're referring to it. That was done when people took an image, cut it into sections, and stuffed the images parts into a table. That's not a good way to build a website.

It depends on your design, but most designs don't need many images. Generally you can use css to create a lot of what used to be created with an image. Experience is what tells you what part of your photoshop file needs to be an image and what can be created with code.

The only way to gain that experience is by doing. Take your photoshop file and divide it, slice it, and cut it up anyway you think will work. Then build the site. You probably won't make the best choices the first time out. But you'll learn how to do it better by seeing what did and didn't work as well when you code the site.

The only way to get better is to do. We can help you with specific problems, but we can't make you better at turning your PSD into a website.

I just wanted to add my two cents. Three years ago I decided I wanted to learn php and was having a difficult time wrapping my head around it. In looking for help I ended up here. The members were great at helping me learn and I succeeded in learning php. I've been here ever since. The moral of the story is the same as has already been said - nothing is going to teach you like trial and error. When you hit a bump in the road, help is here, but it's a road you have to travel for yourself.

If all you want is help carving up an image for a css-based layout, try this tutorial:

The book LadyNRed posted a link to is one of the best books out there for learning about css layouts. After you have read that one, I would recommend moving to this book: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/css2/

Vangogh was right about the slicing thing. It is different to slice for CSS based layouts rather than for table layouts.

If you post a jpg of your pdf, I will try to come back and show you what I would "slice" and how I would "slice" it. I am sure others around here will do the same thing. We do want to help. You just have to be pretty specific around here!
