After finishing a site and going live with it - I have just checked it in FF and everything in the center section of the site is thrown off to the right!

What did I do wrong?!

Site link is here

Not sure as you know more than I do but you have a " at the end of a if statement

if (document.all||document.getElementById)
document.body.style.background="url('images/logo.jpg') black center no-repeat fixed"

should this not be a ;

I suspect the problem is your re-use of the ID main_container. ID's MUST be unique, you've got it specified TWICE.

It's also that horrid table that's actually shifted to the right.

This isn't necessarily the best solution, but it might be the easiest. The table you're using for your content (why are you using that table?) is sitting next to the navigation. When I added a <br /> right before the table it fell right into place.

Not the best but a good quick fix!

I started the site using only CSS for layout, but as the deadline drew closer...
Revert back to the good 'ol table tags....

Now that I can get it to at least view OK in FF, I will go through and change the layout to CSS.

I'm starting a new site today and am (slowly) going through step by step to make the whole thing without tables....

Appreciate your help

Glad to help. I know it's not the best fix, but it was quick and it worked.

You've triggered the doubled-float margin bug in IE6 there. You have float:left with a wide left margin - IE doubles the margin. To fix it, you need to add display:inline to the styles for those divs - and you should do it using conditional comments.

Thanks LadynRed, that fixed the problem - but can you explain more as to why I need to use conditional comments for the display:inline?

As Divs have a unique name, why can't I just add it to the style for that particular Div?

Because Firefox and the other compliant browsers don't need the display:inline, only IE needs it to stop the bug from happening. You don't want the other browsers changing the display properties of the div.
