Hi there,

I used a css template to make a site. I altered the images to my liking and the colours. The home page (index.html) looks great and all is well. But the next page About Us has elements missing.

I don't understand it, I have used the exact same style sheet and the same image folder. I even copied and pasted the html then re-wrote the content.... nothing more.

Any ideas? I used Firebug to try to solve the issue, trying to find where I'm going wrong, but I must confess to being a newbie.

The site is....
http://www.clt-jerez.com (it's a site for learning Spanish - no nasty stuff waiting for you!)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

The path to your stylesheet, etc. should be different on child pages than it is from the main page. Usually you add a ../ to the path to those files for child pages, as they are usually in a subfolder and the main page stands alone. My bet is that if you do that your css will magically reappear.

I disagree with seandfae. My style sheets are the same for every one of my pages within that directory. My index page is in the same folder as my about us and my contact page. I really haven't seen it taught any other way.

Well, that depends on whether or not you put your CSS files in a separate directory or not. I generally do not, so the relative path is always the same - unless I have HTM files in sub-folders from the parent, THEN the path to the css would be different.

On your About Us page - your floats are not cleared properly. Adding clear:both to #page, #header, and your main area is ineffective, the clearing element must FOLLOW the last closing </div> that contains the floats.

Thanks for the replies. But in the end I noticed I had missed off the footer, which I will fill in later, but I added the code anyway. Is this what tells the page where the bottom is? When I added the footer line, start and finish, the layout became correct.

I would however like to follow up your advice, but I don't want to be spoon fed, so Miss LadynRed where can I research the terms you mentioned (I'm a newbie!).

Many thanks,

DB

I was taught to keep the index page on top, with child pages, css and javascript files, images and other files each in subfolders, to keep the site structure logical. Is there some other standard way of doing it that I'm unaware of?

Nope, it's really a matter of personal preference IMO. Now, if I have a large site, I might organize things in sub-folders. I tend to keep all my html files in the root directory, and my css files too on smaller sites. All site images go in an images folder. If using more than one script, I might make a scripts folder and definitely one for media (photos etc.).
