I've pinpointed the problem with the menu being the float:left line in my CSS. Is there another way to do this so the ul aligns properly but stays to my layout?

Removing that from the CSS does nothing to fix the problem.

Get rid of the span that's around your menu list, and remove both positioning rules (fixed and absolute) on #menu.

Already tried that and all's it did was throw the menu to the bottom of the scroll container behind the images instead of in front where it's supposed to be positioned.

Well, I'm trying to view it at work to see if I can help you, but the work computer's using IE6, and you're showing a splash screen that won't redirect. Much as I despise IE6 myself, there are far better, more professional ways to put that notice up. Make a note here, because it's actually preventing you from getting my help.

Yup, it's not IE6 compatible and won't be IE6 compatible. Being able to view it in IE6 even if the redirect wasn't there wouldn't do much good. I will consider though adding a link to continue to the website or some other such thing; I guess if an IE6 user wants to see it that bad (even if it doesn't view/work properly), I should offer them that option? Though I'm not sure how that would work since it's an automatic redirect if a browser is IE6 and it would probably just continue looping.

The problem is the float:left in the css menu. If I remove it, the menu does position where it's supposed to, but then the ul doesn't work properly.

Drop the float:left; and use display:inline;. But you've got practically everything positioned, either absolutely or relatively, which is not only a really bad idea, it means that the float:left; is probably not the issue. Why not? Because positioning all those things removes them from the document flow; in other words, giving it a float does nothing except give it a conflicting style rule.

You need to specify a width for the body, too, and get rid of that position:relative; rule for it. Those two things are key in your layout falling into place.

display:inline just made the ul line up vertically.

If it comes to it, I'm just going to drop the menu and use text links in the container.

But what you missed was the most important part: You have to specify a width for the parent element, in your case the body. If you don't do that the menu's going to float on the screen as far left as it can go, and that's just what it's doing. Kill position:relative; on the body, as well. You can adjust position from there by adding a margin here or there as needed.

I actually misspoke about killing float:left; earlier. Upon checking my own sites, I remembered that I used float:left; along with position:relative; on the ul li.

Thanks for your help, Tim. Meant to post this earlier but got side tracked. Client was on me to get this project moving and agreed to basic text links, at least for now. It's a small enough website it's not going to be that big of a deal to change if I ever get the menu working as it was intended to.

My code btw was based off of this (in case anyone was wondering):
