They don't work at all - -or they don't work in one browser (namely IE) ??? If it's just a browser problem, which VERSION are you seeing the problem in ? IE6 and below can not use the :hover pseudo-class on anything except the <a> tag. To make it hover on anything else, you need javascript - do a search for "whatever hover".
