Columns to same height?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can help a novice website builder here. I can't get the columns/div boxes to do what I want. Basically, I have sliced out the layout with photoshop, brought it to dreamweaver, added a div tag around the whole table, then added another div tag(container) below the header and finally added 3 more divs, making 3 columns. I only need to use 2 columns, left and right, and a 3rd column(middle 1) for the drop shadow.

For the time being, the closest to my intended layout is the use of multiple return-key on my keyboard. But even then it won't line up right; there's always a gap in the layout no matter what.

I don't really want to it all in html, so I'm hoping some css experts can help me out with this problem. Thanks in advance.

Read the stickies: http://www.webmaster-talk.com/css-fo...l-browser.html

You might also consider the faux columns method.

And get rid of the tables for layout

Photoshop is just about the worst html writer that I have ever seen and that does include FrontPage.

I'm not sure Dreamweaver is much better.

You may need to slice your divs a lot differently to make them work with divs and no tables.

Trust me, it is worth the effort to learn the right way. I am not 100% there yet but I am progressing.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm still trying to switch over to all css, but I guess I have to learn how to walk before I run.

Anyway, I think I've found the "faux column" ladynred is talking about. If anyone is interested to know what I did. All I did was add "overflow: hidden" to container's property and "margin-bottom: -2000, padding-bottom: 2000" to columns' properties.

Just don't put any anchors in your page that would go back to the top of your page, that method will completely screw up the anchor. I would not utilize that method, it can cause problems.

Original faux columns method is here: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/fauxcolumns/

I can't use that technique because I have borders, margins, padding, etc..... and I already have a background set, but thanks for the advice and the link, though.
