I think I just found the world's only Firefox bug :P

text-align:center; doesnt seem to work on Firefox. I was doing some sleuthing on the internet and found that it works fine on IE but that on most normal browsers you need to use

margin-right: auto;
margin-left;

and then on Firefox you need to use
text-align:-moz-center;

I had never heard of text-align:-moz-center; before right now but it seems to work.

No, you do not. Firefox obeys text-align: center just fine - IF you're using to actually align TEXT as it was meant. For centering divs and other block-level elements, the margin: 0 auto: should be used.

It happens, LadynRed's right. Firefox in my opinion is the easiest browser to develop for. IE on the other hand not so much

text-align:-moz-center; please don't do this... You'll make me very unhappy :'(

only use

text-align:center;

for IE6

and make use of the
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;

for the other browsers...

I dont know about that. On my website I used margin: 0 auto; to make it centered but for IE it is left aligned.

What version of IE ??
A fully patched/updated version of IE6 will honor the margin:0 auto centering method. If you're talking about earlier versions, you will need to have text-align: center applied to the rules for <body>.

What is the latest version? Mine is 7.0.5730.13.xpsp_gdr.080814-1236 and it won't center things with margin:0 auto; !!!

Anyways if I were you, and you want to be IE compatible, I would do the text-align:center; just in case there are people with other versions of IE6 which ignore the margin:0 auto, like mine.

edit: I just watched my IE7 version.... it was 7.0.5730.13 so I think the IE6 version I typed earlyer isn't correct XD. I installed the mutlipleIE version.... http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE

Did you declare a DOCTYPE? Though I don't know all of the rules (I never use it), I know Quirksmode rendering is much different than "Standards Mode".

I always declare a DOCTYPE and i'm not running Quirksmode , but it's just how my version of IE6 works and I believe every version of IE6. Cause I know some of my clients still use IE6 and "see" the same problem if I don't user text-align to center the wrapper div . As long as IE6 is being used, I'll use both methods... margin:0 auto; and text-align:center;.

well, there is something else going on, because I've used margin: 0 auto; many many many times to center block-level content in IE6, and all versions of IE6 are the same (they don't release updates, except for security).

Agreed. We still have to use IE6 at work, and it has no trouble at all with the margin: 0 auto centering method.

The last update to fix the box model and a few other things took care of this particular problem and that was at least 2 years ago.

wayfarer07 and LadynRed you were right.. I wanted to let you see the problem but then I saw that my html file missed the doctype >< by adding the doctype the margin:0 auto; method worked fine. Sorry my mistake ^^
