I just noticed a pretty significant problem with one of my pages:

http://globalcitypartnership.com/index.php
http://globalcitypartnership.com/css/layout.css

Underneath the main image is supposed to be a box with the title of the news story and then a minor title underneath. This works perfectly in IE7 and FF but in everyones favourite IE6 it flashes and then dispears. Is there an overflow problem that I am missing here?

I'm not seeing that behavior in IE6 here.

Please, specify a background color on your pages, - I see a pink background because I do NOT use windows default colors !

Thats something I had never thought of before. I will definetly change that!

Ya I am not sure what the story is with this, I have looked at the site in IE6 before and I have never noticed this problem. I am also noticing that on: http://www.globalcitypartnership.com...hp?p=volunteer and other similar pages the main content box (the one on the right) is being pushed down to a new row).

I am on a university computer now so I changed the screen resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 and that fixed the problem on the main page but it still isnt fixing the problem on the About - Volunteer page. What do you think I can do about that because thats pretty significant screwup on my part.

There fixed the background colour issue LadynRed although I dont know why you would have that set besides to make fun of poor developers like myself .

I am still stuck on that overflow issue if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it!

I have it set that way (pale pink BG) because I sit and stare at these screens 10+ hours a day. The default bright white background causes eye strain and gives me headaches. The pink does not.

Feed IE a width of 22% and that problem goes away.

The other problem acts like the peekaboo bug: http://www.positioniseverything.net/.../peekaboo.html

If I set it to 22% though then it changes the way the page is layed out. Isnt there a way I can keep it the same dimensions its at now because it looks good in IE7 and FF.

I guess I am mis-understanding the idea of hasLayout. From what I took away from that article the easiest fix is to give everything a width so I set all the boxes in question to width:100%; and its still disapearing on the main page.

Test Page with change: http://www.globalcitypartnership.com/test/index.php

Am I totally missing the point of hasLayout?

That was the rationale behind why I made my site completely blue (but various shades of it). It used to be black years ago, but this time I wanted something cheerier. It's good to know I'm not the only one with these weird habits.

Didn't do that when I tried it, it just brought the right side content div up where it belonged.

hasLayout is MS's way of doing it's own thing - again, and it's a royal pain in the you-know-what. IE has a big problem with very tight layouts.

I mean in Internet Explorer 7 it will increase the space between the two boxes.

I am using BrowserShots right now to check out the site and hopefully figure out if there are any other glarring problems.

hasLayout is the stupidist thing Ive heard of, its like purposely adding something in to confuse developers. grrrr. Maybe I should use z-index or whatever its called to just force it to the front. That will probably get me into trouble.
