The site has a login layout with to columns and a center box. The two to the right and left are to be flesh with the login box. The boxes are correct in IE but not firefox. A little help is needed but it seems to be a css block error.

Here is the page: www.legendsrp.com/login.php

If you have any ideas my msn is j_r_47@hotmail.com

first off, fix these problems;
HTML Code:
<link href="css/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /><title>LegendsRP - Game</title><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
NOTHING in HTML should be before the DTD.

secondly;
The correct way for CSS based layouts is to design and test using Firefox then tweak for the badly behaved IE.

then you have something wrong in your CSS, FF will render what you tell it to. IE will make it up as it goes along. And the MS engine is pretty good at second guessing unfortunately.

I have noticed...
There needs to be a browser standard for all companies that all have to follow...
It would be so much easier for us...

There is. The W3c standards. It's just that MS decided they didn't have to follow it.

It's a bit historical, and goes back to the days when MS realised that instead of ignoring the Internet and Netscape, they had better get their a$$es into gear and steal develop a browser.

Unfortunately they came up with IE4 and of course promptly set about trying to monopolise the browser market for making a "browser" that worked best with MS FrontPage "code" (code being a very loose term in this case). And it's taken them 12 years to realise that it's not working.

So contrary to their usual policy of dragging every thing round to their way, they are now having to fall in line and make a browser that actually works

Which still fails at making the :hover pseudo-class apply to more then just hyperlinks....

And I might remind you that IE8 is NOT FINAL yet! If you're using a Beta version it's just not fully cooked yet, not ready for use. IE8 passed the Acid2 tests, which means it WILL support the hover pseudo-classes just like Firefox.

No offense, but duh its a beta, after every windows update I get the "Would you like us to stalk track your browsing, to build a virtual you help us?". Also, I updated my beta version, and yes it does support pseudo-classes.

Hi, i'll try to help but im not really sure how the site should look. It seems a mess in both ie and ff.

first this
HTML Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<link href="css/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /><title>LegendsRP - Game</title>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
    <title>LegendsRP - Login</title>

</head>
should be this

HTML Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
        <title>LegendsRP - Login</title>
        <link href="css/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    </head>
second, you have 29 validation errors in the main frame and i cant really see why there are two frames.
It would also be a good idea to swap the spans for divs and only use id if the element is being used once. If you are going to use the element more than once you should use the class attribute.

Regards, George

If you're going to mess with a MS beta release of ANYTHING, you just have to swallow their "help us" intrusions.

Tearing your hair out over a product that's not ready for prime time seems like pointless stress.
