I was just looking at another forum and they were talking about how spans were better.

I don't know if the were talking about: spans are better than divs in some situations and divs are better in some.

Clarification please?

I tired to find something on Google that would be helpful on your behalf. Instead of just telling you this way you can see it. http://www.learnwebdesignonline.com/...e/span-div.htm
I hope I was helpful.

divs are block elements so have an implied line break before and after, spans are inline elements and don't.

<span style="display: block"></span>

Now it is basically a div.

Just thought I'd throw that out there...

here is from http://www.w3schools.com

The <span> tag provides a way to add a hook to a part of a text or a part of a document.

The <div> tag is often used to group block-elements to format them with styles.
