Agreed!!
Let me tell you a little story..
I started designing websites 10 years ago in Jr high using Dreamweaver and it was a great program for what it was.. But ultimately it held me back..
If you looked at the messy markup, all the unused elements, and lack of cross browser compatibility of all my websites I made with Dreamweaver in my youth, then compared them to my work with only Notepad++ you'd quickly rid yourself of any WYSIWYG software.
Let's put it this way...
If you want to truely be skilled at web design/development use Notepad++. This will require you to actually learn what you're doing. In the long run you'll be much better off. I regret ever using Dreamweaver.. It's the best WYSIWYG by far, but it blinded me.
Think of it this way. If you're learning to walk, you've got to get off you *** and fall a few times.
However, if you're just playing around and aren't looking to be a professional.. Perhaps just make a few fun little websites, then use http://net2.com/nvu/ yes, it's free.
Best of luck!
