Check out http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/selector.h...bute-selectors . I believe that not all browsers currently support this feature of CSS 2.1.

Oh, it won't be dropped. Just a matter of how long until support is available. LadyNRed most likely knows the current support level by heart, but a quick Google search would probably also tell you (or a quick test).

Looks like I was wrong: http://www.quirksmode.org/css/contents.html .

I also wrote this:
HTML Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html>
  <head>
    <style>
      div[id=abc] {
        background:yellow;
      }
      div[custom_attr=def] {
        font-size:200%;
      }
    </style>
  </head>
  <body>
    <div id="abc" custom_attr="def">My Text</div>
  </body>
</html>
and tested it in IE 8, FF 3, Opera 9, and Safari 3 which all worked -- I was amazed that even the custom attribute worked!

EDIT: Chrome 2 worked as well.
