Background: I'm so new to this web design thing. I've pretty much self-taught everything via Google. I didn't even know the most simple html codes before I started this project.

So I'm put my tears and sweat into building my website, but just when I'm about to go live, I noticed that it looks DRASTICALLY different on Firefox (what I used as a preview while building my site) and Internet Explorer. Mostly, it looks like it's the font issue, which I'm just using ems for. Here's what one of my pages look like on each browser:

Firefox:

IE:

Any advice?? Thanks in advance!!

Check your line height, if you are not using one, make sure you do because they are interrupted different.

Bottom padding/margin are read differently as well.

Different browsers use different default values for margins, paddings, font sizes, etc. You will probably want to clear out all these browser defaults. Check out these links:

No, they are not.

How are you defining your font sizes, and what font are you using ?

Maybe so, but the browsers don't read bottom margins and padding any differently.

Thanks everyone!!! I did the CSS reset thing, and it totally worked! The line-height thing also helped to restyle after the reset.

HI,

Have you checked and stipulated the margin, padding and line-height? I have noticed that firefox (good) and ie (bad) look at margin/padding differently.

Hope that helps,

John

No, they don't.

However, if you are using an unpatched version of IE6 or an older version, IE's bad box model will cause trouble. If you have a fully patched IE6, then the box model problem was fixed about 2 years ago.

Should have added that I always compare ie6 (unpatched) with the latest version of firefox. This gives a true, cross the board comparison and highlights any issues that visitors could experience when using your site.

Always check your log files to see which browsers visitors are using. I'm always surprised how many are still using ie6.
