the jQuery slider at the top will not work in ie but does in every other browser - my suspicions are it may be an ie css specific bug - could any kind soul cast an eye over this and see if they can determine what may be causing this issue please

the width is decared to 940px and the image background is also 940px - i dont actually have access to the ftp to try stuff - im just helping somebody out.

Well, the slider itself seems to be working, but the layout inside of it is a little funky in IE6 (worst) and IE7, so it is definitely a CSS problem. Don't have a lot of time to look at it, but one thing I will point out immediately is that the transparent PNGs aren't doing well in IE6. Either a PNG hack should be used, and if that doesn't work, they should be replaced with some other image type, probably either a transparent GIF or a transparent 8-bit PNG.
