There are 2 sites that I need opinions. One is a clients site which is
http://www.brianstoneconstruction.com and then my site which is
http://www.razorbackdesign.com

I realize both sites are plain and simple. I need to know what is needed to make them better and hopefully with my skills I can improve them. My experience is pretty much with CSS and HTML and DHTML. If you guys have any opinions please let me know. I know there will be plenty of criticism, just give me some ideas also if you can.

Yes your own site is terrible.
Ditch those huge fonts.
I don't like the modern light grey font styles many websites use, as they are too hard to read for me (aged 59) but yours are far too large.
I don't think anyone would want to use your services if that's the sort of website you would create for them.

As to the Homes one.
There is not much happening on the home page, it took me a while to work out where the menu was (very small at the top).
When I went to another page it took a while for the images to load up.
The homes look nice tho (wish I was in Arizona !)
He says safety is a major concern for his homes ! I would not have though that a home buyer would put safety high up on his list ! Whose safety ? His while building it or the owners or any guests ?

Kind Regards

How to make a successful website?
1. Understand your customers
2. Focus usability and other standards on your website
3. Use high quality photos to convey a message/or theme
4. Make your website search engine friendly

Scott, you need to worry about validating your code. Once your able to write clean code you can design flawlessly.

What I don't like about your site, it looks like it is from the 80's and your banner doesn't look like a banner. Also your nav is plain and boring. Please don't be discouraged though. These things can be turned around.

You know how to code... what are you using for creating your images?
Basically you need to start implementing better images and start following other experienced designers examples.

I'm using FW8, which obviously I'm new at, maybe I just don't know the full capabilities.
