Sorry, I wrotte this thread in the "Internet Mrkgt Business Talk". I think it was wrong. The answer must be here, yes?
How to know the right DTD to use in my site? I’m trying to improve my new site (in CSS) applying some Jquery effects, and I found a article that says this:

“DOCTYPES are a key component of compliant web pages: your markup and CSS won’t validate without them. It is also essential to proper rendering and functioning of web documents in compliant browsers like Mozilla, IE5/Mac and IE6/Win.“

For those that are interested in the article, the link is this: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/doctype

This gay (Zelman) is great! He offers a list of the DOCTYPES that really works and it is because of this list I have doubts. What is the difference between XHTML STRICT – TRANSITIONAL OR FRAMESET?

I never notice to this line. I thought that if you apply CSS, then you change de DOCTYPE to XHTML, in contrary way, you just need to put HTML strict or transitional.

XHTML Strict is, well, strict. You must follow ALL of the rules for that doctype. Transitional is a bit looser and you should avoid framesets like the plague.

You can probably get away with HTML 4.01 Strict just fine.

Thank you LadynRed, but could it go better choosing XHTML transitional? I ask this because the site is already done in CSS/ XHTML. Still I'm confused. I do not understand properly what "strict" means, in fact, just the word scares me a bit (jeje, it’s a joke)
After all, I'm using jquery for first time, and it needs XHTML, isn't it? This is my second question, LadynRed. Could I choose XHTML transitional? It just... because “strict” sounds a bit much for me and am not sure to know ALL the rules.

XHTML Strict may sound scary, but it's really not - try this article:

Yes, you could use transitional.
