It certainly is not the optimal way...
It would not work for me, for example, as I activate javascript only on web sites I trust, thanks to the noscript firefox extension.
The problem you have is not because of mac or pc....
It's because you use different browser on each platforms, and they render the html and css rules in a slightly different way (or totally different way, if you talk about IE).
I bet that if you try your code in chrome, firefox and safari on your computer, you would see those differences too.
The web is not a print media. You cannot pinpoint everything to the pixel like you do in a print.
If they don't degrade the look, don't take too much of your time on those small details.
And if you really want to have it perfect on every browsers, then you will need to document yourself about their rendering bugs, quircks and tricks to have them behave the way you want.
There is no absolute fix for everything.
