I will be using the type face "Helvetica Neue" on my next website.

How well is this supported on Windows computers?

I heard Windows doesn't have Helvetica Neue, and users get Aria instead.

Is this correct?

Then I couldn't use Helvetica Neue on my website.

Correct but what is used will depend on what font family you specify as next in the list.

And @font-face is supported in some browsers

I intend to use the company name in Helvetica Neue as a GIF, and have the rest of the site use Futura.

Is Futura Windows compatible?

Futura doesn't even show up here.

And for Helvetica I set the alternative of Lucida Grande? (Which isn't that bad).

I heard of a technique called "font embedding".

You basically provide the fonts to a system that doesn't have it.

Has anybody ever done this?

Currently, my website is in Futura, and Aria as a back-up.

Which leads to a problem with my logo, as it becomes longer when the typeface changes to Arial.

Is it possible to tell the browser" If you use Arial, reduce character spacing to 6px"?

have you tryed @font-face yet?

this is one I used on my website
Code:
@font-face {font-family:Calibri; src:url('/font/calibri.ttf');}
@font-face {font-family:Calibri; font-weight:bold; src:url('/font/calibrib.ttf');}
@font-face {font-family:Calibri; font-style:italic; src:url('/font/calibrii.ttf');}
you need to include font-family and src url (which means i uploaded the font to /fonts/font.ttf) I then uploaded the bold and italic form of the font so the font can stay the same even when it is formatted.

Not as yet, however as the CSS3 attribute selectors become supported, it may be possible.
