I disagree, IE6 users still represent 4% of our visitors, and 4% is too big to ignore, we had some functional issues with IE^ pertaining to the dropdown menu on our site, it would get hidden behind other div layers below it, We had 2 css deisgners look into it, but failed to rectify the problem, and third time lucky we had it fixed.
The thing is in our business we deal with a lot of corporate customers and a lot of corporate users do not have rights to install software on their work computers so they are confined to IE6 [or may be just tech luddites who can't upgrade], because of that it's essential for us to make the browsers compatible with IE6.
I our case it was just that there was an additional CSS element in the code which wasn't doing anything, other than making it imcompatible for IE6, code deleted, site functionality restored.
To the OP, sorry I'm not a CSS designer, but I would advise you to get a professional to look into it, if you can't get the solution here.
