My website igniter.newsmuncher.com works perfectly fine in me internet explorer 8 browser at home, however when i visit the same site whilst at work. All the grey/white backgrounds disappear and im not sure why.

Any ideas? There is a div that has a transparent background, would this maybe have an effect?

Is it the same version at work? Is it in Quirks mode or compatibility mode?

I think there might be a slightly difference in the version number...

Ive tried it with the compatability on and off and it makes no difference. I believe quirks mode is off.

I've noticed aswell that in my header its "strict":

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

It is entirely possible that you have settings in your IE8 at work that are not the same as your home version. It's also possible that your network security is blocking some things, I know ours does.

I have noticed something rather weird, my website works at home in IE7/IE8, but at work it doesn't, if i alter the brightness of the monitor then the borders, and background colours appear as they should. The current setting for the monitor is "normal", and it doesnt seem to affect the website in safri or firefox (checked) but in IE it distorts everything.

I can almost guarantee that is the answer to your problem. It shouldn't be an issue unless EVERYONE with IE8 views it this way. I would check with your IT department and ask them what regulations they have set up on your network,
