It seems that some pretty big named sites are moving over to CSS design, actually I think Yahoo has recently converted over.

for those of you who know classic html, how hard was it to transition over? i'm not an expert with css by all means and i want to know the learning curve.

i've heard its very tricky to get into

Basic CSS is not tricky at all it's actually very easy to pick up....however the whole crossbrowser compatiability part is a regular pain in the rear....

if you know HTML you should have no problem with CSS

check out www.w3schools.com to get started......

You can also check out the sticky in this forum on CSS resources

CSS is easy to use excpet when (like me) you want to do special fun smart looking things then its difficult. i can do css simply w3schools is the best site for the task, they give you tutorials etc.

but if your having problems you could use a css generator but that wont teach you anything and is strickly speaking cheating

CSS is not as easy as you think at the beginning. Although you don't have to have a great knowledge of all those tricks if you create code for 2-3 browsers, if you want to support many more browsers, it's not as easy

tableless design isn't difficult at all.
Take a look at either site in my sig, or www.blooberi.com catalogue/shopping cart with an all CSS layout (ADULT products BTW) only the pages where tabular data is displayed use tables.

or CSS Zen Garden now try that with tables.

Hi Bud,

I see you can be overwhelmed with comments that CSS is easy and sometimes it is. What you are looking for is not what you interpret. There is no such thing as a Table-less design, so please do not fall for it.

When people say that they can do a table-less design they are meaning the html code is minimal. CSS is not a new language, it is a design standard. One that can compliment HTML very nicely indeed.

Steve.

The design on most of my pages don't use a single table.... I'd call that a table-less design...

css is time-consuming and hardwork (if manual) for small sites with simple layouts, but indispensible for large sites
